Ab 2004 brachte ein CIFAR-Programm Geoffrey Hinton, Yann LeCun, Yoshua Bengio und weitere Forschende regelmäßig zusammen. Es koordinierte Arbeiten, die zur Deep-Learning-Renaissance beitrugen, war aber kein einzelner universeller Startpunkt.
